About
I’m a photographer, writer and computer guy who moved from my native New Orleans up to Northeast Louisiana last year to be closer to my two young girls, Emma and Nicole. Please email me directly if you like.
The blog came about this way: my ex-wife, a painter, became a member of the Masur Museum of Art. She attended a party for museum members and artists on June 26. This was sort of in conjunction with the opening for the museum’s 44th Annual Juried Competition, in which I had a panoramic photo print exhibited. The juror, Miranda Lash, curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the New Orleans Museum of Art, gave a talk at the party during which she mentioned that no one in this area has yet started a blog that discusses local art and culture and also gives visitors an updated guide for related events. Apparently, these sorts of blogs exist vibrantly in other, more populated areas such as Dallas and Atlanta.
Being an artist myself and previously a journalist for the Times-Picayune newspaper in New Orleans, and also someone who feels like he needs to get out and see more of Northeastern La., I became really excited about the idea of writing a blog about local art events, while also being able to meet people and shoot some photos, all in a very similar fashion to the “Around Town” feature I used to cover for the paper in New Orleans, when I shot the photos and wrote the story and was pretty much given autonomy to run the column.
And here we are. I hope you enjoy this new site and that it serves your needs. All comments and suggestions are welcome, of course. Let me know if you have an event or artist you’d like to see mentioned. Enjoy the site!
